Please join us Sunday, Nov 20th, 2011, 3pm – 5:30pm at Maysles Institute, 343 Lenox Ave, New York, NY for a film screening, Bodies, Walls & Borders: Immigrant stories of resistance and longing (view pdf) celebrating 50 years of student organizing, building community and making change!
In light of the current harsh backlash on migrant communities, we have curated with works by Davis Putter Fund grantees, dealing with the intricacies and specifics of migrant experiences in the U.S. Focusing on gentrification, the experience of a queer asylum seeker and a child’s take on what it means to belong and not belong to this country, these films help us understand some of the varied and complex realities immigrants face and we know it will inspire us to action and movement towards social justice. We are also excited to feature a performance by the People’s Poet Kahlil Mustafa and to have the opportunity to build with you.
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is an organization that has provided scholarships to student activists for 50 years across the U.S. and we want to ensure it continues to provide such urgent support for many more years to come and many more generations of activists.
Please mark the date, invite your friends and join us for an inspiring gathering!
